Cellulosic Clearing Technology Hurdles

Though the U.S. ethanol industry has taken some hits and the national economy has made it difficult to find financing, the pioneers of a future cellulosic-ethanol industry continue to make advancements on some of the toughest codes to crack on the technology front...

...James P. Imbler, president and chief executive officer of Lakewood, Colo.-based ZeaChem, said his company isn't out to "reinvent the wheel" when it comes to developing its technology.

That, perhaps, gives ZeaChem an advantage in a tough economy, he said, because the technology it uses is already well established. The company uses biochemical and thermochemical processing to convert hybrid poplar trees to ethanol.
